Vegetarian BBQ Pizza

Nothing says summertime like bbq. And nothing says humans like a giant pizza. As it being summer, why not merge the two together?!

Just a heads up, this is not made from scratch. It is semi-homemade which makes it so much quicker and easier to do!

The meat substitute I used for this recipe is jackfruit. Jackfruit is apart of the fig and breadfruit family and is native to southwest India. 1 cup of jackfruit contains 2.5g of fiber, 2.8g of protein and 37% of your daily value for vitamin C. If you want to learn more about the benefits of jackfruit, click the link below! (I don't know how credible this website is, but it does give some great insight into the fruit.)

Soooo this is what you will need! Well, this is what I used and you can obviously adjust it accordingly to your liking. 😊

Ingredients:

16 oz. bag of Trader Joe's plain pizza dough

3 cups of Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce

10 oz package of BBQ jackfruit (I got mine from The Jackfruit Company)

1/4 red onion cut into rings

4 cups of mozzarella cheese

1 tablespoon Garlic Powder

2 tablespoons of chives

1 cup of flour

Olive oil

Pepper

Prep time: 10 minutes

Cook time: 10 minutes

1. Preheat your oven to 450 degrees F or according to the pizza dough package. Next get out the pan you will be placing your dough on and lightly grease the pan.

2. In a bowl, pour 1 1/2 cup of BBQ sauce, jackfruit package, garlic powder, and pepper and combine. Break up the jackfruit into smaller pieces. This step is optional, however, I like to jazz up my food a little more. Taste it before you do anything to it to see if you like the flavor of the jackfruit as is.

3. Flour your surface and drizzle your hands with a little olive oil to prevent the dough from sticking. Roll out your pizza dough into the shape that you want, then place dough on the pan.

4. Add 1 1/2 cup of bbq sauce to your pizza dough a spread it evenly. Leave about an inch around the edges without any toppings or sauce. Next add 2 cups of cheese, the jackfruit mix, onion rings, and then the last 2 cups of cheese. (if you don't like a lot of cheese, then leave out the last layer)

5. Place in over for 8-10 minutes or until cheese is golden.

6. As the pizza is cooling, add the chives for some garnish.

That's it! It's fairly simple! This can be great to serve to anyone, not just a vegetarian. Even my carnivorous father said it was great and he thought the jackfruit was bbq chicken!

Let me know if you tried out the recipe and how it turn out! I will talk to you guys later!

BBYYYYEEE!!!
